I’ve been working on a few more interface improvements for Cube World Omega, along with a new place to discover out in the world.

The top-left corner now shows your character’s portrait, name and level beside the XP bar. When you have a pet equipped, your companion gets a portrait and XP bar of their own underneath. Both portraits gently tilt from side to side. It’s a little easier to keep track of how the two of you are progressing!

I’ve also expanded the button bar in the lower-right corner with shortcuts for the lantern, ring menu and friends. A separate pet button shows whether you can call or ride your companion, and a new interaction prompt shows what you can do with the highlighted item, object or NPC.

The updated HUD with character and pet portraits, names, levels and XP bars at the top left, an expanded button bar at the bottom right, and a Pick Up prompt beside a Heartflower.

The button bar has a new setting in Options: Always, Dynamic or Never. Dynamic is the default: it fades out while you’re moving and returns after you stop, leaving more room for the world while you’re travelling.

I’ve continued refining the gamepad controls, too. You can now navigate menus with either the D-pad or the left stick, and moving the stick no longer closes them. The right stick still lets you turn the camera while menus are open.

Tap LB to open the ring menu, or hold it to use your button combinations as before. While the ring menu is open, you can walk forward or backward and tap left or right to change your selection. Calling or riding your pet is now on left-stick press. Character slots also select as you browse them, and the voxel editor uses D-pad up / down for model zoom while the left stick moves the editing cursor.

Finally, here’s a first look at the new Gnoll settlements. You’ll find them surrounded by wooden palisades. Watch out for the scout on the watchtower: if he spots you, he can alert the settlement!

You can find the full list of changes in the 0.1.7 patch notes.
